Just spotted an ad on the telly featuring former Reuters correspondent and author Hugh Lunn regarding the Free West Papua campaign.

It was a lengthy appeal on Channel Nine, and also featured two ex-pat West Papuans speaking out about the way the Indonesian military intimidated voters at the elections, circumventing the country's pitch for independence. Must have cost a small fortune!

Businessman Ian Melrose is funding the TV blitz. He's the apolitical entrepreneur behind www.opticalsuperstore.com.au and is channelling his profits into social justice causes. It's nudging 40C here today, and we don't have an airconditioner. I've eaten my bodyweight in icy poles and almost a quarter of a watermelon to try and cool off. I'm even sitting in a darkened room to try and keep things cool - but I'm still sweatin' it.  Even my laptop feels too hot. Yikes!
